IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!

Eileen Opened Tuesday April 25, 2017**

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the legendary Eileen, the 1917 Romantic Operetta by Victor Herbert!

During the Irish Rebellion of 1798, a young noblewoman Eileen Mulvaney falls in love with — and aids in the escape of the Irish revolutionary Barry O’Day, as the British tighten their control of Ireland.

Herbert’s unabashed love for Ireland was put onstage just as America was entering the “Great War” in 1917. The music of Eileen is full of priceless gems such as “True Sons of Erin,” “The Irish Have A Great Day Tonight,” and the famous “Thine Alone.” If you’ve an Irish bone in your body, you’ll be “wearing the green” with us in this adventurous and romantic operetta!

Tickets are $10 (students), $15 (seniors) and $30 (for adults) on-line right now in our Box Office. If you wait to pay at the door, it’s $10 (students), $20 (Seniors) and $35 (Adults) All working entertainment members get $20 admission with presentation of a union card.

Princess Pat turns heads and wins hearts with “Two Laughing Irish Eyes” in one of Herbert’s first musical comedies featuring the new “dance” craze on Broadway!

In this musical comedy, two friends on Long Island conspire to rekindle the romance missing in their lives.

Patricia O’Connor’s marriage to Italian Prince Antonio di Monaldo takes a twist, while her best friend Grace Holbrook unexpectedly falls for Tony Schmalz, who is the handsome son of her aging millionaire fiancé.

The cast of “The Princess Pat” featured both emerging talents and seasoned performers including Angela Christine Smith, Sarah Caldwell Smith, Brian Kilday, Drew Bolander, David Seatter, and Jason Robinette, Richard Holmes, and Anthony Maida,in principal roles — with Joanie Brittingham, Nathan Baer, Tanya Roberts, Merrin Lazyan, Pedro Coppeti, and Matthew Billman in supporting roles.

Set on a Long Island estate in 1915, “The Princess Pat” is a fast-paced romantic romp with great Herbert dance music and witty songs such as “I Wish I Was an Island in an Ocean of Girls,” “The Shoes of Husband Number One (as Worn by ‘Number Two’),” a groundbreaking duet “For Better or For Worse,” as well as “Two Laughing Irish Eyes,” and Herbert’s classic “Neapolitan Love Song.”

CRITICAL PRAISE FOR THE PRINCESS PAT

“Victor Herbert’s 1915 charmer
The Princess Pat was lovingly resurrected by Alyce Mott’s intrepid group… The cast was exceptionally fine across the board… The score was a joy to hear… with many highlights… big numbers with assurance and style… hit all the comic points with panache… All in all, a quite modern show demonstrating another facet of the ever-surprising Herbert.”

The Princess Pat was a huge hit!
We enjoyed the dancing… we adored the singing… The duet between Grace and Pat “For Better or for Worse” deserves as much fame as “The Flower Song” from Leo Delibes’ Lakme. “I Wish I Was an Island in an Ocean of Girls” was a hilarious… And we loved the romantic “Neapolitan Love Song.” …This work was part of VHRP LIVE!’s Irish season. Watch out for more to come!”

“Son of Dublin” Concert Celebrated An Irish-American Music Master’s Legacy!

Our “All Irish” season continues with a concert of music by Victor Herbert and an extra special dash of Dublin— music by the extraordinary Samuel Lover, Herbert’s maternal grandfather, the Irish music hall composer, poet, and philosopher.

Lover was a huge influence on Herbert — his 1835 novel Rory O’Moore provided the basis for the plot of Herbert’s 1917 romantic operetta Eileen, our upcoming season finale of VHRP LIVE!

A cast of phenomenal singers will perform a program of some 22 songs we know you’ll love, such as the sound of “Molly,” “Mary Came Over To Me,” and “Old Ireland Shall Be Free,” among a treasury of other works in this musical tribute to Herbert’s Irish heritage. An historically notable inclusion in the concert is “The Bards of Ireland,” a song cycle of old Irish airs arranged by Herbert in 1909 for the Annual St Patrick’s Day Dinner of The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, attended by U.S. President William H. Taft.

The voices of “Son of Dublin” include Vira Slywotzky, Joanie Bittingham, Katherine Corle, Ross Brown, Richard Holmes, Anthony Maida, Jovani McCleary, Jason Robinette, and David Seatter. Musical direction and piano are by Michael Thomas; with libretto by Alyce Mott, and stage direction by Emily Cornelius.

“Son of Dublin” running time is approximately 90 minutes.
